Attention Management

One of the main ingredients in trainings at Shu’em Healing is attention management that is an important key and can be practised by everyone. Attention is similar to energy and many people are hardly aware of how they make use of their attention and incessantly throw away their life energy. Feelings and thoughts float from here to there and oftentimes are not in one line. While thinking takes you on a course of action, feeling can give quite a different impulse and your opinions might be different again. You waste your energy to all these incongruities and get exhausted without knowing why.  The result is an ongoing internal monologue, which narrows down the way you experience living.

In every spiritual tradition as well as in shamanism, the first and most important step is to train the mind and silence the internal monologue. In this way you start to manage your energy in a more beneficial way. Once you start storing your energy by attention management, you can make use of it more freely and steer it into projects that have real value in your life and enrich daily living.

Life changing

‘Although I don’t know exactly what, something has fundamentally changed’ is a remark I’ve heard from many people who came for healing, meditation and Shu’em shamanic courses. To give an example I like to quote a lady who had just started a few weeks before with the Professional Healer Training:

“It is amazing, but here I feel things really change. As if all my hang-ups, fears and anxieties just disappear. Before I have gone through different therapies and meditation courses, but somehow it didn’t really give a change. I learned to manage my emotions and fears better, which already improved my experience of life. However, they were still lingering underneath and when circumstances were harder, they came back again and again. With Shu’em Healing it feels as if these underlying emotions are cleared up as if they actually don’t exist anymore. I still have to deal with daily life in which some things are nice and other things not, but I can flow far more freely with it.”

This indefinable, ungraspable and at the same time clearly change is one of the characteristics of Shu’em Healing.

Shu’em Healing restores the balance in the causal field of one’s experience. The causal field is the experience of feeling in the widest sense of the word including all memory. Although in the West few people are aware of the causal field it has great influence on your experience of life. To illustrate this, please think back to the last time you made a promise to yourself to change some pattern and it didn’t succeed. You can observe it every New Year when people make a promise to stop smoking or to loose weight. Although they really want to change, oftentimes after a few hours, days or weeks they give up and start smoking again or stop dieting.

One could say the ‘bad habits’ someone wants to change are rooted in the causal field and since it is unconscious it is impossible to change these roots consciously. As long as the roots stay unchanged the same pattern returns again and again. Shu’em Healing is a way to restore the balance in these roots again. Once the roots are back in harmony, all other aspects of one’s life automatically become more balanced again. Many times new perspectives open up in daily life.

‘You lifted me up’

During my years with Shu’em Healing I’ve heard many beautiful stories and experiences of participants. I’d like to share some of these on this blog, starting with a couple of years ago. It was on a festival where we gave twelve healing/meditationrituals for free. Participants lay down in the middle of a circle formed by the shaman and his assistants (students) who perform the ritual.

Although we do not talk much afterwards, since these rituals can draw you into deep silence, we sometimes inquire how people experienced the ritual. At one of these moments there was this beautiful reaction. It was a man who was in his sixties or seventies and quite heavily overweigth who said:  “This is the first time in my life that I was lifted up!”

Shamanism is beyond words

If you have ever tried to describe the feeling of love you know this is impossible. The feeling of love entails much more than any word, text, beautiful poem or song about love. None will be able to capture all that love entails. It is the same with shamanism, which mainly works with the human experience of ‘feeling’. This field of human experience is  a much wider field than words can ever capture. Shamanism can only be known by experiencing it.

In the Western world we give great importance to words, analyses and understanding and maybe this blog can contribute to the understanding of Shu’em shamanism. However, keep in mind that what you are reading are only words and impressions about it. You can read this blog as a menu and if it gives you an appetite, please feel free to enter the experience.
